Prof. dr hab. Marek Szydło

Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of De Republica

Marek Szydło graduated in Law from the University of Wrocław. In the course of his academic career, he obtained the PhD degree in Legal Sciences in 2004, the postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in 2007, and subsequently the title of Professor of Legal Sciences in 2015. He has been employed as Full Professor at the University of Wrocław, heading there the Chair of the Department of Competition Law and Sector Regulation. His scholarly activity focuses on public economic law, administrative law, European Union law and some areas of international law. He is the Member of the Council for Scientific Excellence (1^st term) and the Chairman of the Legislative Council to the Prime Minister (13^th term). He holds a professional title of attorney-at-law and, as part of his legal practice, he has prepared numerous legal opinions for companies and public institutions and he also represented Poland in proceedings before the CJEU (regarding Polish commercial tax). He is the author of over a dozen scientific monographs (e.g., „Swobody rynku wewnętrznego a reguły konkurencji. Między konwergencją a dywergencją”; „Krajowe prawo spółek a swoboda przedsiębiorczości”; „Prawo konkurencji a regulacja sektorowa”; „Wolność działalności gospodarczej jako prawo podstawowe”; „Prawna koncepcja zamówienia publicznego”), and over 200 other scientific publications, including over 20 articles published in journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports (e.g. “Common Market Law Review”, “Journal of International Criminal Justice”, “International Journal of Constitutional Law”, “European Law Journal” and “American Journal of International Law”).
