On 10 March 2022, Katowice held the award ceremony of the nationwide contest “Become the Uprising Explorer!” organised by the Institute De Republica together with Instytut Myśli Polskiej im. Wojciecha Korfantego (the Wojciech Korfanty Institute of Polish Thought). Out of more than 70 applications, 27 winners were selected in four categories: visual arts, literary, photographic and audiovisual.

We know the winners of the nationwide contest “Become the Uprising Explorer!”

The contest, organised within the framework of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Silesian Uprisings of 1919-1920-1921, enjoyed great interest and was addressed to students of primary schools, secondary schools, educational institutions, cultural houses and centres, as well as adults.

The aim of the contest was to shape patriotic attitudes, deepen historical knowledge, disseminate knowledge about the Silesian Uprisings, improve the knowledge of our own origins, and popularise knowledge about Polish heroes. Applicants could send their works in one of the four categories: visual arts, literary, photographic and audiovisual.

“We received over seventy applications and along with them – contest works. Some might say that this is a lot, others that it is not enough. But for me, especially today, the most important thing is that in the 21st century there is still a smouldering willingness and enthusiasm to shape our patriotic attitudes, deepen our knowledge of history, learn about our origins, and disseminate knowledge about Polish heroes and history. I am proud that the Institute De Republica had the opportunity to participate in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Silesian Uprisings not only by co-organising the scientific conference and exhibition that were held on 27 October 2021, but also by organising this contest”. – said during the gala, dr hab. Bogumił Szmulik, the Director of the Institute De Republica.
