Dr hab. Sebastian Ruciński, University Professor

Sebastian Ruciński obtained the PhD degree (2005) and subsequently the postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in Humanities in the field of History (2014). He is employed as University Professor at the Department of History of the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. His scholarly activity focuses on the ancient period, especially the history of ancient Rome, primarily the early imperial period (1st-3rd century after Christ). He mainly deals with the history of Roman administration and military, and explores the role of social elites and customs.

He is the author of such books as Praefectus urbi. Strażnik porządku publicznego w Rzymie w okresie wczesnego Cesarstwa” (Poznań 2008), published also in French Praefectus urbi. Le gardien de l’ordre public á Rome sous le Haut-Empire romain” (Poznań 2009); “Praefecti praetorio. Dowódcy gwardii pretoriańskiej od 2 roku przed Chr. do 282 roku po Chr.” (Bydgoszcz 2013); and “Études sur l’administration romaine“ (Bydgoszcz 2021).
