Prof. dr hab. Halina Lichocka

Halina Lichocka graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Warsaw (UW) in 1977. In 1965–1969, she also studied at the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Electronics. In 1986, she obtained the PhD degree in Humanities at the Institute of History of Science, Education and Technology of Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), and subsequently in 2003 the postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in History in the field of history of science at the Institute of History of PAN. In 2009, she obtained the title of Professor of Humanities (nominated by the President of the Republic of Poland) as well as the title of Professor of PAN. Her scholarly activity focuses on history of chemistry in Poland and abroad; history of natural and pharmaceutical sciences; scientific press of the 19th century; biographies of Polish chemists and chemists associated with Poland. In 1977-1996, she was employed as Assistant (1977-1989) and then as Assistant Professor (1986-1996) at the Institute of the History of Science of PAN (formerly the Institute of the History of Science, Education and Technology of PAN). In 1990–1991, she also lectured history of pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical Academy in Warsaw. In 1996-2018, Deputy Director of the Institute of the History of Science of PAN (1996-2007), and then Head of the Chair of the History of Science, Nature and Technology at the Institute of the History of Science of PAN (2007-2018). In 1992-2020, editor-in-chief of the journal ”Analecta. Studia i Materiały z Dziejów Nauki”. She conducted numerous scientific researches in Polish and foreign centres (e.g., in Vilnius, Vienna, Paris, Budapest, Bratislava, Miskolc, Ljubljana, Stockholm, Uppsala, Riga). She participated in numerous national and international conferences (e.g., in Hamburg, Paris, Veszprem, Vienna, Eger, Sopron, Budapest, Marburg, Lisbon, Prague). She is the author of numerous scientific publications, e.g., “Ignacy Mościcki” (Radom 2011), “Ignacy Mościcki (1867–1946). Inżynier i wynalazca” (Warszawa 2006), „Historia poszukiwania leku w roślinach, w Polsce 1800–1856” (Warszawa 2002) and “Badania leczniczych wód mineralnych w Polsce (1800–1858) z perspektywy rozwoju chemii” (Warszawa 1989).
