Nationwide conference on Irish statehood in the 20th century

On 14 December 2021, a nationwide scientific conference on contemporary Ireland will be held in Lublin. Its main theme will concern Irish statehood in the 20th century, the formation and evolution of the Irish political system, as well as political relations in the Irish Free State and Éire.

The conference will be divided into four sessions. The first of them, entitled “The Partition of Ireland and Prospects for Reunification” will include five lectures. Dr hab. Wawrzyniec Konarski, university professor, dr. hab. Bartłomiej Toszek, university professor, dr Szymon Bachrynowski, dr Łukasz Danel and Miłosz Gapsa will discuss the topic.

The second session will be devoted to the topic “The System of the Irish Free State and Ireland”. The lecturers will be dr hab. Paweł Leszczyński, university professor, dr Maciej Furtas, dr Łukasz Wawrowski, Weronika Nawracaj and Jakub Szyszka.

The third session will be entitled “Polish-Irish Relations and Varia”. There will be six lectures delivered by dr Jarosław Płachecki, dr Michał Wallner, Bartosz Czajka, Michał Dworski, Gabriel Doherty and Dariusz Szady.

The lecture part will be followed by Discussion moderated by dr hab. Katarzyna Radzik-Maruszak, university professor.

The reason for considering the above-mentioned issues is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the British-Irish treaty, which established the Irish Free State.

The conference will be held in a hybrid format – stationary and online.

The co-organisers of the event are: Regionalny Ośrodek Debaty Międzynarodowej w Lublinie, Fundacja Scytia, Katedra Systemów Politycznych i Praw Człowieka UMCS, Centrum Badań nad Historią Polskiego Państwa na Uchodźstwie KUL, Instytut im. gen. Władysława Andersa oraz Instytut De Republica. Honorary patronage is held by the Polish Association for Irish Studies (PAIS).
