The Jesuits – learning and teaching, arts, culture, spirituality

On 6-8 July 2022, the Institute De Republica in cooperation with the Institute of History of UKSW is organising a scientific conference entitled “The Jesuits: science and teaching, art, culture, spirituality”, which is related to the historical anniversaries: 400th anniversary of the canonisation (1622) of Ignatius Loyola (founder of the Society of Jesus) and Franciszek Ksawery (the Apostle of India, China and Japan); 365th anniversary of the martyrdom (1657) of Andrzej Bobola (the Jesuit and patron of Poland); 425th anniversary of the death (1597) of Rev. Jakub Wujek (religious writer, translator of the Bible into Polish) as well as 410th anniversary of the death (1612) of Rev. Piotr Skarga (writer, preacher).

The conference will be held in the form of a debate among experts. It will be preceded by an introductory lecture outlining the role and significance of the Jesuits in a broad historical context. The meeting will be divided into four thematic panels.
