The Great Crown Chancellor and the Great Crown Hetman Jan Zamoyski, the founder of the third university in Poland – Akademia Zamojska – was also famous for his parliamentary speeches and extensive epistolary legacy. His maxims, such as: “Takie będą Rzeczypospolite, jakie ich młodzieży chowanie” (“Such will be the Republics of Poland as their youth are brought up” or “Król panuje, ale nie rządzi”/ “Rex regnat sed non gubernat” (“The King reigns, but does not rule”) are known to almost every Pole.

The purpose of the conference is to commemorate the Great Chancellor, a true giant of Polish politics and culture, as well as to familiarise the audience with the issues concerning the era in which he lived and worked. The scientific conference will be interdisciplinary in nature. The papers presented will focus on the humanities, social sciences and the history of art and architecture.
